Hi, I’m SORCHA LORIMER.
Privacy, data and growth. From someone who’s built it.
Founder, entrepreneur and senior privacy & data leader with experience spanning digital products, regulated industries and sensitive data.
I founded and built Trace Data, a specialist privacy consultancy with its own SaaS platform, through to its acquisition in 2024. Today, I’m Founder of Onyxio and work selectively with founders, leadership teams and investors.
My background spans the NHS, digital and design, financial services, global privacy and complex data. I bring that mix to the difficult questions where privacy, data, technology and commercial reality collide, helping organisations understand not just the risks, but what they can actually do.

Ways to work with me
-
Senior privacy and data expertise for founders, boards and leadership teams.
I work selectively as a Fractional Chief Privacy Officer / Chief Trust Officer and senior adviser, bringing deep experience across privacy, data governance and data security risk.
Dual-qualified across privacy and data security risk, I’ve worked across the full spectrum, from startups and product development to complex global enterprises.
I bring experience from both sides of the table: leading inside organisations, and founding, building and selling my own specialist privacy and technology business. I can step quickly into complex or high-stakes situations, helping leadership teams shape strategy and navigate product, customer, partnership and international growth decisions. Engagements range from ongoing fractional leadership to focused senior advisory at key moments.
I also work selectively with investors and advisory firms where an operator’s perspective on privacy, health data, regulated technology or international opportunities can help inform a decision.
-
Practical support from someone who has built, grown and sold a data business.
I’ve mentored founders through Barclays and Techstars and am a qualified coach, alongside having lived the founder journey myself, from bootstrapped startup through to acquisition by a private equity-backed US multinational. I particularly enjoy supporting founders and senior teams building data-rich, regulated or technically complex businesses.
That might mean working through positioning and commercial decisions, enterprise readiness, product and privacy strategy, partnerships, or simply bringing an experienced outside perspective when there are competing priorities and no obvious answer.
-
Fresh perspectives on privacy, data, design, innovation and responsible growth.
I speak and write about how organisations can approach privacy, data and responsible innovation differently, drawing on a career spanning digital and product design, global privacy and data, technology and entrepreneurship. I was a member of the Founding Editorial Board of Springer Nature’s AI and Ethics and bring both a practical industry perspective and a longstanding interest in how technology can be designed and used responsibly.
A recurring theme in my work is applying design thinking to privacy and compliance. Start with what you are trying to achieve, understand the people, context and constraints, then design a proportionate solution around them. Done well, privacy and governance can shape better products, unlock new ways to use data and support global growth, rather than simply adding controls at the end.
I also design and deliver masterclasses, workshops and facilitated sessions for founders, leadership teams and industry groups. Drawing on teaching, mentoring and coaching experience, I enjoy bringing different perspectives into the room, challenging established assumptions and making complex topics practical and engaging.
Topics I particularly enjoy exploring include privacy by design and product thinking; innovative approaches to compliance; responsible use of sensitive data; designing for global markets; privacy and data as business enablers; AI and ethics; and the realities of building, scaling and selling a data business.
My story
I’ve never had a particularly linear career.
I grew up in Scotland in an unconventional, entrepreneurial family, with travel, music, art and different cultures part of life from an early age. Since then I’ve lived and worked across the UK, Tokyo, New York and Lisbon, and built a career spanning healthcare, digital and design, financial services, privacy, data and technology.
What connects it all is a deep curiosity about data, privacy and technology from a human perspective, combined with a slightly geeky love of complex problems and a creative instinct to question, experiment and find better ways of doing things.
